On Sunday, March 18, at 7pm...
We're putting the finishing touches on the line-up for our next show — 7pm at Western Sky Studio, 2525 8th St., Berkeley, tickets at the door: $8-$20 (sliding scale.)
Some terrific performers are joining us from out of town: Rhonda Morton (New York) and Rebecca Bryant (Indiana). And, some of our favorite locals will be returning to Moment's Notice on March 18: Owen Walker, Cathie Caraker, Kim Criswell, Victoria Pizzinat Joy, and others.
Rhonda Morton (Alligator Mouth Improv) is teaming up with Owen Walker (Action Theater Bay Area) for a romp into the wilds of mind, music and madness.
Each has performed at Moment's Notice in the past, to much acclaim.
This is the first time we'll see them together as a trio — such a tantalizing combination!
(That's Rhonda at right. Sadly, the fountain will not be able to appear at Moment's Notice.)
Dancer/Improviser/ChoreographerRebecca Bryant creates performances that combine movement, text, video, sound and objects. Known for her “wonderful insistence on making art about complex ideas” (Janice Steinberg, San Diego Union Tribune), Bryant is interested in blurring the lines that separate artistic disciplines as she addresses current societal phenomena.
In addition to solo work, she is an active collaborator, creating performances with Lower Left Performance Collective (dance/theater) and the Past Modern Performance Duo(dance/percussion/new media). She has danced with renowned and emerging choreographers including Victoria Marks, Nina Martin, Wally Cardona, Kim Epifano, Shelley Senter, Lionel Popkin, Liam Clancy, Marianne Kim, Randé Dorn, and Manuelito Biag. Bryant has performed her work across the US and in Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Germany, Romania, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, with projects being supported by residencies at Djerassi Resident Artist Program (California) and Guapamacátaro Art and Ecology Residency (Mexico).
Dance critics have called Bryant’s work “humorous, subtle, and provocative” (David Lemberg, Artscape Media), “exploding with suggestions” (Zachary Whittenburg, Chicago Dancemakers Forum), and “a stunning and witty experience.” (Nancy Wozny, Dance Source Houston) Bryant currently resides in Indiana where she is Assistant Professor of Dance at Purdue University, and continues to travel the world teaching ensemble improvisation, contact improvisation and contemporary technique.
Cathie Caraker is an itinerant dance artist, teacher and performer. She has studied, taught, researched and performed widely, deeply and trans-continentally in the field of New Dance for 30+ years.
Cathie says that, as always, she is deeply grateful to the MoNo gals for this opportunity to no-know a bit more.
Kim Criswelland Victoria Pizzinat Joy improvise from their senses with humor and musicality to create playful, body-sound-and-soul-based, physical theater. On this Sunday before spring equinox, they'll seek inspiration from (human) nature. Perhaps they'll find balance between darkness and light.

Details about our April 14 show
Bios, April 14:
Briony Greenhill is a British singer specializing in improvisation, community and play. She studied music at the London Guildhall, with Bobby McFerrin, Rhiannon, David Eskenazy, Charwell Dutiro and Atul Upadhye in India. She lives in Oakland, California. Briony has been performing since she was eleven years old, both solo and in a number of different ensembles, from the rickety stage of the Beccles Public hall to the ICA in London's Pall Mall (just up the road from Buckingham Palace). She's been holding community and corporate singing workshops, and singing in a ceremonial context, for over six years. She co-founded the London Vocal Improv Collective in 2011 and now she is exploring the possibility of something similar in the San Francisco Bay Area. www.brionygreenhill.com

Cloud light. Bird migration. Purple-topped turnips. Krill. Ziggy energy. These are a few things Claire associates with spring. She thought you might need to know this up front, since you are about to learn more about her than she knows herself. What else. Life practice in Action Theater, taught by Ruth Zaporah and Owen Walker. Just finished a four-day workshop here, sweat barely dry. Writer, naturalist, radio person, blah blah blah. Lives in Point Reyes Station, so grateful to be here.

Stuart Phillips says: "Improvisational Contact Dance Performance gives me a platform to discover my true nature, within each fleeting moment, a gift to everyone." www.stulip6.wix.com/stulips
Kerstin Stuart asks: "Where is that I will meet both you and myself for this moment in time and where will we go???"
Kerstin Stuart asks: "Where is that I will meet both you and myself for this moment in time and where will we go???"
Kim Criswell performs improvised, sense-based physical theater. Her background is steeped in Action Theater, but she will not be doing Action Theater. In fact, she may not even be performing. This time, she's interested in un-performing, curious about just how simple things can be...

This show will feature (drumroll, please):
Cheryl Leonard is a composer, performer, improviser and instrument builder. Over the last decade she has focused on investigating sounds, structures, and objects from the natural world. Leonard’s works cultivate stones, leaves, wood, water, sand, shells, feathers, and bones as musical instruments in compositions that reveal the unique voices hidden within these materials. Her music has been performed worldwide and featured in several television and video documentaries. She has received grants from ASCAP, the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Artists and Writers Program, American Composers Forum and Meet the Composer, and awarded residencies at Djerassi, Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus, Villa Montalvo and Engine 27. Find our more at her website: www.allwaysnorth.com
Claire Peaslee lives in greater Point Reyes and has regular conversations with birds and shrubs and the weather. She considers Action Theater, taught by Ruth Zaporah, a sort of life practice: "improvisation of presence"— isn't that the essence of a fun existence? Occasionally heard on public radio, or read in the pages of Bay Nature magazine, or discovered leading nature-laughter excursions in her greater back yard, Claire invites you to correspond via www.clairepeaslee.net.
Katarina Eriksson has been involved in improvisational dance since 1989, collaborating with artists such as Julyen Hamilton, Cathie Caraker, and Karen Nelson. She teaches Contact Improvisation and other improvisational work in Europe and the US. Katarina's traditional dance background includes the Gothenburg State Theater and Opera. She produces the performance series Moment's Notice in Berkeley, which she co-founded in 2000. Her latest performance endeavors are: touring with Hoppalappa Postfolki Tanziteatteri in Sweden and Germany, dancing in a site-specific piece in Beirut, and directing inter-disciplinary performances in Massachusetts and New York.
Rosemary Hannon is a performer, choreographer and dance teacher with unconditional love for dogs and cheese. Rosemary has been teaching contact improvisation since 2004 and dance since 1996 in various venues and institutions. Her performance career started in 1982 with San Francisco Ballet Company (The Nutcracker) and continued later with modern and post-modern dance engagement. More is at www.nonodance.com/company/rosemary-hannon/
Ronja Ver has been living, loving, exploring, teaching and performing Contact Improvisation for almost 20 years. She is a dancer and dance maker, artist, activist, anarchist and teacher, a native of Finland, currently making work in the Bay Area. Her choreography has been presented by the American Dance Festival, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Danspace Project, Zodiak – Centre for New Dance, Aleksanterin Teatteri, among others. Former posts include the National Theatre of Finland, Beyond Improvisation Collective, and Riitta Vainio Dance Company. Since 2001 she has created several full evening works for both theater and found spaces. She has danced and collaborated in works by Nancy Stark Smith and Mike Vargas, Deborah Hay, Jaana Turunen, Keith Hennessy, David Hurwith, and was proud to perform in Steve Paxton’s DVD Material for the Spine. She is currently performing with Scott Wells and Dancers and Avy K Productions in San Francisco. She is a co-founder of the Finnish CI festival Skiing On Skin, and holds an MFA in Dance from Hollins University. Her website is www.ronjaver.net.

Who's Who at the April 19 MoNo
Join us at Western Sky Studio (2525 8th St., Berkeley, CA) at 7PM onSunday, April 19 (sliding scale tix $8-$20 at the door) to see:
-->
Meg Anderson (www.kineticdust.com) is a multidisciplinary artist who combines original dance and music compositions. Her work draws from an eclectic training in classical choral music, African drumming, physical theater and dance. A recent transplant from Chicago, she is honored to be making work among the brilliant and wacky artists of the Bay Area. Tonight’s performance will most likely be groovy and hip-hoppy and modern and expressive and wild. The theme: The humor of trying to capture identity—riffing off of Alan Watts’s idea that we are all just God playing hide and seek with itself.
Krista DeNio (www.kristadenio.com) is an interdisciplinary choreographer, director, performer, writer and educator, committed to developing new forms of performance work and evolving interdisciplinary thinking and creation between the fields of dance and theater, among many others. Recently a lecturer with UC Berkeley's Theater, Dance and Performance Studies, Krista teaches Contact Improvisation throughout the Bay Area, is a member of the International Interdisciplinary Artists Consortium, a founder/curator/co-producer of the E|MERGE Interdisciplinary Collaborative Residency (2010-14), and former executive artistic director of Earthdance (2009-13). She received her MFA in Theater: Contemporary Performance from Naropa University.
Rosemary Hannon(www.rosemaryhannon.com) is a dancer who makes performances about fear, femininity, perseverance, time, old stories, ordinary/enactive perception, and bodies. She creates contexts/constraints to investigate real feelings during entertainments. And she is co-producer and co-curator of Moment’s Notice.
Julie Oak’s mother shipped her off to mime camp when she was 16.She’s been off and running with movement-theater ever since—from street theater to serious boogying to creating her own shows. Julie brings life experience to the stage, improvising in the moment, playing characters, or writing original scripts. As a teacher, Julie originated “RealPlay” transformative expression and improv art— leading her own private classes and guest teaching for festivals, universities and private groups for over twenty years. She is based in Santa Cruz, CA. More info is at www.RealPlayis.Us.
Miriam Wolodarski directs, performs, and teaches (improvisation, contact, composition, and physical theater) in the SF Bay Area and beyond. She holds an MFA in Contemporary Performance from Naropa University, a BS in Political Science from Uppsala Universitet, and a banana in her left hand. She believes in dance and performance as a contemplative practice for both creator and observer. She makes her own work and dancing for Scott Wells & Dancers. For more, see www.senseobject.com.
